Gas City, Indiana: Amanda Carmack, 36, was sentenced on Wednesday, September 15 to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the strangulation of her daughter, Skylea in September 2019.
Carmack's trial had initially started last year, but due to a number of positive COVID cases and the impending Thanksgiving break, Grant Circuit Court Judge Mark Spitzer called a mistrial at that time.
Last month the jury found Carmack guilty of the charges against her including murder, neglect of a dependent and strangulation.
Carmack's attorney, Dave Payne told Wane 15 that he intends to appeal. During the trial he reportedly argued several times that the murder was not premeditated but rather the case of a stepmother snapping.
