A 16 year old Alabama boy is due in court tomorrow for a felon examination. Currently Jeffrey Wanca is being charged as an adult and being held at the Madison County Jail on a combined $200,000 bond.
On Saturday, August 24th, Chad Wanca, 43, told his son Jeffrey to clean his room. Evidently the situation escalated to the point that Jeffrey got a gun and shot his father. He also shot his brother, 12 year old Hunter Wanca.
Multiple calls were placed to 911 to report the shooting, and when police arrived, they found Jeffrey in the driveway where he approached officers with his hands raised.
Neighbors and even family members reported that the family had dysfunction, but nothing outside the sphere of any regular family.
Chad's mother, Linda McNamara told WAFF, “I’m going to the hospital. I hope I’ll be able to get in and see my grandson. I’d like to go to the jail as well and see my other grandson. I want to talk to him. I don’t know where his head is at. I love my grandsons. I love them both.” She also asked, "Please pray for my grandsons, as they need all prayers and support they can get."
Initially taken to the hospital in critical condition, Hunter is reported to be on the mend physically as family disclosed that he was alert and talking Monday.
Sheriffs are expecting more details to be released as the preliminary hearings get under way and the investigation develops further. At this time, they are still unsure as to how Jeffrey got possession of the firearm.
A memorial service for Chad Wanca is being held September 7th in Smyrna, Tennessee.
