42 year old Kenneth Burdick of West Mifflin, Pennsylvania called 911 early Saturday morning and told the dispatcher he had killed his mother and was ready to turn himself in.
When police arrived to his residence at about 7 am, they found him sitting on the front porch awaiting their arrival. He then directed them to the basement of the home where they confirmed that his mother, 80 year old Dolores Burdick lay dead with obvious signs of trauma to her head and face. Kenneth's own socks and shoes showed splatters of blood.
Kenneth told police that Friday morning, at about 11 am, he went into his mother's room where she was paying bills and began hitting her. He is reported to have "knocked her to the ground and began kicking and stomping her,” according to the criminal complaint.
Kenneth is then said to have dragged her to the basement door where he “tossed her down the basement steps,” before he dragged her across the basement floor and left her. He allegedly told investigators that she was still breathing when he left her.
Kenneth has been booked into the Allegheny County Jail in Pittsburgh on a charge of criminal homicide. He is being held without bail.
Detectives noted that there were a history of domestic disturbance calls to the residence, but there were no active protection from abuse orders. The investigation is ongoing at this time.
