Police are now seeking the public's help to identify the victim.
“Illegal dumping is very prevalent in this area, so it is not uncommon to come across tires, mattresses and trash from people’s houses,” Kansas City Kansas Police Department spokesman, Officer Jonathon Westbrook said. “But it is very rare that we come across a situation like this where someone dumps a body back here and then make the extra attempt to burn it.”
Police believe that the body had been there less than 24 hours when it was discovered on Wednesday due to the fact that the area, located near Memorial Park Cemetery Sunset, is patrolled regularly.
The investigation is ongoing and police are checking to see if there is any helpful images that can be retrieved from cameras in the area.
Kansas City Police are asking that anyone with information about either a missing person or the body itself contact the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (84777).
