After a day care worker reported suspected abuse of children, Miguel Angel Sanchez was arrested on Monday by the Doña Ana County Sheriff’s Office for abuse of a child, four counts of bribery of a witness.
An emergency protection order was issued for the children which officers say that Sanchez violated two days later. As a result of that violation, he was additionally charged with one count of aggravated stalking.
Sanchez stands accused of hitting his children, all under the age of 12, with a wooden paddle, choking one on at least one occasion, and allegedly punishing another for praying for his brothers.
The children additionally reported that their father had killed several puppies in front of them, throwing several of them into oncoming traffic and shooting others in the desert. One of the children reported that their father then made him bury several of the puppies after they had been shot.
He was released from the Doña Ana County Detention Center on Tuesday after posting a $2,500 unsecured bond.
His next scheduled court date is not known.
