Three month old Hailey Bannister died in Robert Wood Johnson Children’s Hospital in New Brunswick, on December 11th after being admitted on the 5th with traumatic brain injuries. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding her untimely death lasted more than twice as long as here brief life.
Wednesday the 17th, both her father and mother were taken into custody and charged in her case. Daniel Bannister, 31, who had worked as a member of the Ewing New Jersey Police Department since 2017, was suspended with pay in February as the investigation was continuing. Catherine Bannister, 29, had worked as a kindergarten teacher at Foundations Academy in Trenton until her maternity leave in December. In May, they chose not to renew her contract.
Daniel has been charged with murder after Mercer County Prosecutor Angelo Onofri said they had uncovered an "ongoing pattern of abuse" as revealed from the autopsy report. Catherine was charged with endangering the welfare of a child as she had known of the abuse. Both entered not-guilty pleas at the Superior Court of Mercer County on Thursday afternoon.
