According to reports, Firefighters in Kansas City were out on a call when they smelled smoke and responded to a residence at 4:35 am Monday December 30th the Kansas City Star reported.
Once the flames were extinguished, three victims were found inside which were identified as Yazmin Rodriguez, 31, her daughter, Amerikha Rodriguez, 14 and her son, JeanCarlo Rodriguez, 10. A GoFundMe has been established to help with funeral expenses.
Police responded to the residence at 5 am and a preliminary investigation determined that they were victims of a homicide and not the fire.
Monday night, police arrested 31 year old Ismael Caballero. He has been booked into the Wyandotte County Detention Center. His charging information shows two outstanding warrants from August 2019.
On Wednesday the Wyandotte County District Attorney charged Cabarrero with three counts of first degree murder and two counts of arson. A judge set his bond at $1 million.
Police confirmed Tuesday, when they publicly confirmed the identities of the victims that "this is an incident that originated from a previous dating relationship."
