Stafford County, Virginia: A man arrested on Saturday, January 29 for attempting to abduct a girl on her way home from school Friday afternoon was on probation for previous offenses committed in 2016 for which he had plead guilty including abduction by force or intimidation, burglary at night to commit a felony, robbery, conspiracy for breaking and entering, and conspiracy to commit robbery.
34-year-old Steven Randall Williams is back behind bars at the Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond on a new charge of abduction.
At approximately 2:50 pm Williams made contact with a 9-year-old girl that was walking home from a bus stop under the pretense of asking for directions.
Williams then grabbed the girl and forced her into the passenger seat of his vehicle before closing the door.
As he walked around the vehicle to get back into the driver's seat, the girl opened the door, fled the vehicle, and ran home.
Based on an image of the vehicle released to the public, a few hours later, officers arrived at Williams' residence armed with an arrest warrant.
A standoff ensued which lasted six hours as Williams barricaded himself inside the home and refused to exit.
Officers sent a drone into the home in an attempt to locate him, used robots to open doors and search, and even attempted to flush him from the residence with the use of tear gas.
Eventually, shortly before 3:00 am, K-9 officer Titan was sent into the home to locate Williams. He was then taken into custody without incident.
Williams' most recent appearance in the court was on September 9, 2021 when he appeared before Stafford County Circuit Court Judge Victoria A.B. Willis on a charge of drug possession with the intent to distribute. Despite a guilty plea on the charge, while still on parole from the 2016 charges, he was awarded a 5 year, 10 month, 17 day sentence with four of those years suspended.
A search of court records did not indicate that a new court date has been scheduled.
