Despite the arrest dating back to July 9, 2020, information about charges filed against 25-year-old Matthew Hon Ferguson Jr are just being released.
According to a statement by the New Castle Police Department on September 2, an investigation into Ferguson began as a missing juvenile case out of Pennsylvania. With the assistance of the Lafayette Police Department in Indiana, investigators were able to determine that Ferguson had been in contact with the missing 14-year-old.
Further investigation determined that Ferguson had another unnamed male bring the 14-year-old from Pennsylvania to him in Indiana where he engaged in sexual activity with the girl. The New Castle Police indicated that Ferguson admitted to the assault during an interview with detectives.
A forensic interview was conducted on the girl, and she additionally told investigators that she had been sexually assaulted.
Ferguson is currently in custody in the Tippecanoe County Jail where he remains in lieu of $40,000 bond. The charges currently against him are statutory sexual assault, aggravates indecent assault, indecent assault on a person less than 16 years old and interference with the custody of children.
Ferguson is scheduled to appear in an Indiana court room on September 11 at 8:30 am for a status conference. His jury trial is scheduled to begin November 17 at 8:30 am.
Eventually, he will be extradited to Pennsylvania to answer to charges there. The New Castle Police Department states that they are discussing with federal and state authorities to determine whether additional charges should be filed.
