The Howard County Police Department announced on September 3 that their investigation into a Reservoir High School teacher and lacrosse coach which had begun in June had concluded and resulted in the arrest of the teacher.
26-year-old Stephanie Walzl of Manchester, Maryland was arrested and charged with sexual abuse of a minor, a felony, and a fourth-degree sex offense, a misdemeanor. The abuse is indicated to have occurred between January 2, 2020 and June 6, 2020.
Investigators reviewed nearly 69,000 text messages and found reason to believe that an inappropriate relationship existed between Walzl and a student which dated back to December 2019. Within those text messages, it was revealed that there was regular contact before, during, and even after school.
Investigators are not aware of any other victims.
While no updated statement concerning Walzl's employment with the Howard County Public School System could be located, a search for her name on their website, and that of Reservoir High School, turned up zero results. It appears as though she is no longer on administrative leave.
Walzl remains in custody at the Howard County Department of Corrections where she is being held without bail. Her initial hearing was scheduled for September 4 at 11:00 am, and her next appearance is not listed in the documents.
