Shortly after 4 am on Wednesday morning, 30 year old Jacob Daniel Price walked into the Crestview Police Department lobby wearing a bloodied shirt and confessed to shooting his parents and two family dogs.
Police responded to the residence where they found Jolene Price, 51, and Robert Price, 56, in the master bedroom, both deceased with gunshot wounds to the head. Also on the bed was one of the family dogs that had also been shot. The second dog was located on the dining room floor. Two German Shepherds were found unharmed.
Price served as a member of the Marines from 2009- 2013 as a field radio operator. He was deployed twice to Iraq between 2010 and 2011 as a part of Operation Enduring Freedom. Marine spokeswoman Yvonne Carlock stated that Price left the Marines at the rank of private because “the character of his service was incongruent with Marine Corps’ expectations and standards.”
Price has been charged with two counts of premeditated murder and two counts of aggravated animal cruelty. He remains in custody of the Okaloosa Department of Corrections awaiting his hearing.
The motive remains unknown.
An autopsy will be preformed by the First Judicial Circuit Medical Examiner’s Office, and the investigation is ongoing.
The two surviving dogs were taken into the temporary care of PAWS. A family member is said to be taking custody of them.
