Rio Rancho, New Mexico: On Friday, December 9, 19-year-old Zane Skinner is believed to have woken up at about 5:00 am and to have soon thereafter shot and stabbed his father.
Officers were not dispatched to the home until Saturday, 24 hours after the killing, when Skinner is reported to have called 911 to report that his father was dead.
The body of 49-year-old Michael Skinner was found nude in the bathtub in the master bathroom.
According to the Albuquerque Journal, Skinner initially told officers that he had found his father's body with "two bullet holes in his cranium" and had waited to call police because he didn't know what to do with the body.
Officers officially interviewed Skinner later at which time he is said to have admitted to killing his father.
Skinner allegedly told officers that he had woken at about 5:00 am and retrieved a .45 caliber handgun from the garage and then went to wake his father. He allegedly said that he asked his father "if he abused animals" and then shot him.
After dragging his father's body to the bathroom, he reportedly stabbed him three times in the abdomen and twice under the jaw.
Skinner is alleged to have additionally drove to a bank with his father's ATM card in order to withdrawn money to purchase supplies in order to assist with the dismemberment and disposal of his father's body.
Skinner is in custody at the Sandoval County Detention Center on a charges of first-degree murder and tampering with evidence.
Skinner had been previously arrested on November 15 and was charged with criminal trespassing, assault on a police officer and resisting an officer after he was found attempting to break into a neighbor's home.
