West Point Staff Sergeant Patrick Edwin Gorychka of New Windsor, New York was arrested on Wednesday, December 4th. That same day he appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Judith McCarthy in White Plains federal court and was later released on bail.
Gorychka, 37, has been charged with one count of distribution and receipt of child pornography after an online investigation conducted by an undercover FBI agent began in October.
The undercover agent made contact with Gorychka in a chat room on Kik "known to be frequented by individuals with a sexual interest in children."
The undercover agent introduced himself as an uncle of a young girl with which he had engaged in sexual acts. Gorychka is said to have asked for images of the niece.
Through the course of conversation, the agent mentioned that he had met a "pedo mom" that watched children for illegals while they worked and made money on the side. Gorychka then asked for the agent to introduce him to this woman.
Between October 31st and November 16th, Gorychka spoke to another agent introduced to him as "Jane." During one of those conversations, Gorychka told "Jane" that, "I have always had a fantasy of being with a younger girl." The undercover agent asked how young to which Gorychka responded, "I'm not sure lol the younger the better I guess." He went on to ask if a meeting could be facilitated with one of the children "Jane" watched. "I have money," he is reported to have said.
Gorychka additionally provided links to the agent for some of the files that he had containing images and videos of children engaged in sexual activity with other children and also adults.
The investigation is ongoing.
If convicted, Gorychka could face a minimum of five years, and a maximum of 20 years in prison. Information on his next court date was not released.
