Stratford, New Jersey: Information is just beginning to trickle out concerning three individuals that were arrested on Thursday, March 2, 2022 after a 13-year-old girl appealed to a neighbor for help.
According to WPVI, the girl began to repeatedly ring the doorbell of Karen Villec's home in the afternoon of Tuesday, March 1.
"I opened the door and she hands me this dog collar," Karen told WPVI. "And I go, 'Is your dog loose?' She said, 'No, they shocked me! They shocked me!' And she put up her neck and I saw the two marks from the dog collar."
She said that as she held the dog collar, she felt it vibrate in her hand.
Karen brought the girl into her home and attempted to comfort her while her husband placed a call to 911.
"I was horrified," she continued. "My husband and I haven't been able to sleep for days on end. You know, what can we do for this poor little girl?"
Police transported the girl to Jefferson Hospital in Stratford for treatment of her injuries, and the Division of Child Protection and Permanency has removed her from the home.
The following day 42-year-old Kelly Mennig, 22-year-old Rebecca Mennig, and 20-year-old Rachel Mennig were all arrested and charged with aggravated assault, child abuse and neglect.
Investigators spoke with the three women, who denied abusing the girl. Another resident of the home however, reportedly told investigators that the girl was forced to wear the dog collar as punishment when she was "bad."
All three remain in custody at the Camden County Correctional Facility and their court date is not known.
