Denver, Colorado: Police in Denver are investigating a box of human heads that was stolen from a medical transport truck sometime between 2:30 pm Wednesday and 9:30 am Thursday, March 3.
"The truck was parked in the 7700 Block of East 23rd Avenue when unknown suspect(s) broke into the truck and stole a dolly and box," police said in a statement released to media.
That box, described as being blue and white with markings indicating "Exempt Human Specimen" and "Science Care," measured approximately 20 x 15 x 18 inches and is said to have contained human heads intended for medical research.
One local news outlet, KDVR, spoke with a resident of the neighborhood who described the events as "Pretty shocking." Isaac Fields went on to say that, "I guess I don't see too many strange things happening around here usually, but you know you never know."
He disclosed station that his wife was involved in Ph.D. research at the University of Colorado Anschutz, so he speculated that the missing parts must have been headed for a similar research environment.
But he then began to ask the questions that hopefully the police will soon be able to answer: Why was the truck parked in a residential area? Where was it headed? Who would even be interested in stealing such items?
"At this point, no arrests have been made and investigators are working to gather more information to identify the suspect(s) and recover the stolen items," the statement from police said.
Police have not disclosed much else, citing the ongoing investigation. They ask that anyone with information contact the Denver Police Department at (720) 913-2000 or the Metro Denver Crime Stoppers if they wish to remain anonymous at (720) 913-STOP (7867).
