Weatherford, Texas: The Parker County Sheriff's Department responded to a home at about 11:30 pm on the night of Tuesday, September 20 and found a 12-year-old girl and her father had both been shot.
Investigators stated that both individuals were transported to the hospital via air ambulance. Their conditions were not disclosed.
The girl was found lying in the street with what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the head. A firearm was located underneath her.
Inside the home, the girl's 38-year-old father was located with a gunshot wound to the abdomen.
"Sheriff investigators said the juvenile is believed to have shot her father, fled the scene, and later shot herself," their press release read.
"Sheriff's Criminal Investigation Division (CID) members discovered during their investigation that the juvenile suspect had planned for several weeks to murder her family and pets and had been in contact with another juvenile female from Lufkin, TX, regarding the murder plot. The other juvenile female had also planned to murder her father, but did not go through with the plan."
At this time in the investigation, it is believed that the 12-year-old intended to drive from her home to Lufkin approximately 230 miles away to pick up the other girl. From there, the two intended to run away to Georgia.
The girl from Lufkin, whose age has not been released, has been charged with criminal conspiracy.
The investigation remains ongoing Sheriff Authier stated that "Due to the injuries, the age of the juveniles and the sensitive case matter, information released regarding this case will be limited."
In a statement posted to Facebook, the Lufkin Police Department took the opportunity to "remind parents that it is so important to know who their children's friends are- either at school, on social media, and even online gaming platforms."
