Dallas, Texas: Officers announced the arrest of a first grade teacher at Lakewood Elementary school on Monday, April 12 on a charge of possession of child pornography "due to the nature of his position and involvement in the community," the awareness bulletin read.
25-year-old Kevin Rayo was reportedly found to be in possession of multiple images depicting men engaging in sexual acts with children as young as three years old.
Rayo said that the images were sent to him by a cousin that lives outside of the United States.
He was booked into the Dallas County jail on Monday with a bond of $25,000. Tuesday morning he did not appear in the inmate search results according to the Lakewood Advocate.
Rayo began working at the school in the fall of 2020 and according to a letter sent to parents from the principal, Brittany Thompson, was placed on administrative leave. The reason for that leave though, was not disclosed in the letter.
"We understand this type of change may cause some concern for students and parents," the statement read, "However, we want to assure you our commitment remains to ensure all students receive quality instruction."
A statement from the school district acknowledged "extremely serious allegations involving a teacher," but did not comment beyond assuring parents that "We remain committed to the well-being and safety of our students, staff, and families and are focused on providing appropriate resources to those impacted."
Officers are concerned that there could be victims and encourage parents to speak with their children. They ask that anyone with information contact the Dallas Police Department's Child Abuse Squad at (214) 275-1300.
