Parents intercepted text messages sent to their 14-year-old son from a physical education teacher at Thales Academy in Rolesville, North Carolina.
They then turned them over to police.
On Friday, February 12, 30-year-old Paula Louise Stinson was arrested and charged with 12 counts of taking indecent liberties with a child. In North Carolina this charge is classified as a Class F Felony.
"During the investigation, it was also discovered that the suspect and student had engaged in inappropriate interactions at the school and boy's home over a two-week period," a news release from Wake County Sheriff's Office spokesman Eric Curry read.
Thales Academy has issued a statement disclosing that following her arrest she "was immediately terminated," and that the school leadership "is actively communicating with the Wake County Sheriff's Office and cooperating with their investigation" while they work to fill her position.
Stinson made her first appearance in court on Monday morning where she was appointed a public defender before being released on a $75,000 bond. Her next court date is scheduled for March 8.
