Lynn, Massachusetts: 49-year-old Alfredo Paratore did not attend his court hearing yesterday in person, but was able to attend via a video feed.
According to WHDH Paratore's attorney stated that his client was currently dealing with unspecified medical issues and entered a plea of not guilty on his behalf.
Paratore was ordered to be held without bail and referred to a mental health evaluation at Bridgewater State Hospital. His next court date has been scheduled for June 30.
Emergency responders were called to the residence that Paratore shared with his mother, 80-year-old Katherine Paratore on Friday evening at about 8:00 pm.
At the residence they found the woman, deceased, near the doorway of the home. She appeared to have been there for some time.
Court documents indicate that she was found shirtless with bruises on her arms, head, and neck. Additionally, lacerations were found on her right collarbone and right hand, and it appeared as though some of her internal organs had been placed on the interior doormat nearby.
While speaking with Paratore officers noted that he had scratches on his cheek and ear, and appeared to have dried blood on his left hand.
Court documents indicate that Paratore was the one that had made the call to 911 indicating that he had found his mother deceased. Officers noted though, that he appeared nervous and had a hard time answering their questions concerning the last time he had spoken with his mother or the last person to see her.
Paratore told officers that he had used suboxone, used to treat opiate addition, approximately 15 minutes before. When it appeared as though he was overdosing, officers administered Narcan and he was taken to Salem Hospital for further evaluation.
