Aventura, Florida: A psychiatrist has been arrested for sexual assaults that reportedly happened at the Aventura Hospital in July 2019.
29-year-old Keun Lee was a medical-school graduate and resident at the hospital where he worked under the supervision of Dr. Robert Vassal. Lee's medical license was issued in 2018, but lapsed in 2020.
According to the Miami Herald, a 23-year-old woman had been admitted to Aventura Hospital with a severe leg injury on July 8, 2019. She underwent surgery and the following week, Dr. Robert Vassal was assigned to her case due "to the nature of the vehicle incident that injured her leg."
In making rounds, Vassal and Lee both had a "brief visit" with her, but Lee returned later, alone.
It was during that visit that he is accused of first sexually assaulting her. The woman claimed he returned the following day and once again assaulted her.
Dr. Robert Vassal stated that Lee "would have no reason to have over 40 minute long private visits with a patient."
Hospital surveillance footage confirmed the woman's timeline, showing that Lee entered her hospital room alone.
Lee surrendered to police on Wednesday, December 22 and was arrested and charged with two counts of sexual battery. He is currently out on bond.
"Patient safety is at the center of everything we do at Aventura Hospital," a statement issued by the hospital read in part. "This individual is no longer employed with us and we have and will continue to assist law enforcement with its investigation of this individual. Our concern continues to be for the victim, and we offer our support to her and her family."
