33-year-old Bryan Scott Carrejo was arrested on Wednesday, September 23 by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and charged with five counts of possession of child pornography, a third degree felony.
Carrejo had been employed as pastor at Victory Chapel in Orange City, Florida.
He is being held in the Volusia County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bond. He has been assigned attorney James D Smith, but his next court date is not yet listed.
“I think it's absolutely disgusting and he's where he needs to be. It's amazing that he's doing that and he's got five kids, four or five kids living in his house,” neighbor Duncan Corn told WESH.
Investigators obtained a search warrant for Carrejo's residence after a tool developed by Child Rescue Coalition determined that someone from that address had been offering to share images of child pornography. When the search warrant was served, images depicting children as young as 8-years-old were discovered.
“Right now, we don't have any evidence that being a pastor at the church has anything to do with the child pornography, but it is a concern of ours and we want anybody to come forward who has any information pertaining to that,” FDLE agent Jason Kriegsman said.
“People believe that a pedophile will look suspicious and be suspicious and that's just not the case. In practice, it's often somebody who is a trusted member of the community,” Child Rescue Coalition's COO Glen Pounder told WESH during a Zoom call.
Anyone with additional information about Carrejo pertinent to this case is encouraged to call FDLE’s Orlando Regional Operations Center at (407) 245-0888.
