Parents arrested last Thursday after their son was brought into an emergency room bruised and unconscious have now been charged with murder, assault on a child and child abuse.
At approximately 6:30 pm Last Thursday, an employee at the Marriott Courtyard Hotel in Richmond, California called to report that a couple had just rushed past stating that their infant was not breathing and they were on their way to the hospital.
Less than 30 minutes later, another call came in, this time from emergency room workers at the Kaiser Hospital. They reported an unresponsive 5-week-old infant that was covered in bruises.
"The child had obvious signs of abuse," Aaron Pomeroy, spokesman for the Richmond Police Department stated.
The infant was pronounced dead a short time after arrival.
35-year-old Ray Ray Darn and 28-year-old Marilyn Northington were scheduled to be arraigned this afternoon at 1:30 in Contra Costa Superior Court. Their next court date is not known at this time.
The couple has two other children, both of whom have been taken into protective custody with Child and Family Services.
