Pair indicted for murder of 3-year-old missing since February 2021

Augusta County, Virginia: Tuesday, May 24, Sheriff Donald L. Smith of the Augusta County Sheriff's Office announced in a press conference that a grand jury had indicted two individuals on charges related to the believed death of 3-year-old Khaleesi Cuthriell.


Travis Brown and Candi Royer have both been indicted by an Augusta County Grand Jury on charges of aggravated murder, felony murder, unlawfully concealing a dead body, conspiracy to commit aggravated murder, conspiracy to commit child abuse, and conspiracy to conceal a dead body.


The grand jury indicted Brown on an additional charge of child abuse or neglect resulting in serious injury.


Royer and Brown are scheduled to appear in court on June 10 at 9:00 am.

"Rest assured, there will be justice for Khaleesi," Smith said.


According to the timeline of events, Khaleesi was placed into Brown and Royer's custody in October, 2020.


On September 3, 2021 Brown was reported missing. The following day Khaleesi's mother, Amanda Arey, an inmate at the Middle River Regional Jail according to the Augusta Free Press, reported to the Sheriff's Department that her daughter had been in Royer's custody.


Allegedly Arey had been told that Royer had turned her daughter over to an aunt in Covington, Virginia or possibly into the care of her maternal grandmother. Friends and family of Royer additionally told officers that they had heard similar reports of custody changes.


Khaleesi had not been seen since February 2021.


On September 12, 2021, Brown and Royer were located in western Pennsylvania and arrested. Each were initially charged with a felony count of abuse and neglect of children.


By September 21, 2021, Sheriff Smith provided a media statement on Facebook announcing that "It is with great sadness that the search for Khaleesi has now turned into a recovery mission."


It is unknown whether or not Khaleesi's body has been recovered.
