47-year-old Christopher Thomas Peto has been working with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department since 1999. On January 31, 2020, he was arrested on charges of having sex with minors after an anonymous tip came into the department’s internal affairs criminal investigation section alleging that an officer in the Laughlin area was having inappropriate relations with minors.
Peto had been assigned to the Laughlin Area Command and was relieved of duty with pay on the 31st pending formal charges.
He is accused of engaging in sex acts with at lest two girls 13-17 years old over the course of the last two years.
“It is believed that Officer Peto encountered these girls at the Laughlin Jr./Sr. High School and during calls for service,” Metro said in a statement according to the Review-Journal.
Peto has been booked into the Clark County Detention Center on five counts of lewdness with a child under the age of 14; three counts of customer engaging in soliciting a child for prostitution; two counts of kidnapping a minor; and one count each of lewdness with a child between the ages of 14 and 15, and child abuse or neglect according to jail records.
Peto's preliminary hearing is scheduled for the 20th at 10:00 a.m. with Judge Tim Atkins.
The investigation is continuing.
