On Friday October 30, Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry announced the arrest of 28-year-old Casey Hoffman, a former member of the Kaplan Police Department on 12 counts related to child sex crimes.
Hoffman had previously served the country as a paratrooper out of Fort Bragg from 2011 to 2014 before becoming a K9 trainer with the police department in May 2019. He is married with three daughters and one son according to his Facebook page.
He is in custody at the Vermilion Parish Jail where he is being held on $950,000 bond resulting from 7 counts of possession of child pornography of a minor under 13, 2 counts of production of child pornography of a minor under 13, and three counts of first degree rape of a minor under 13.
“My Cyber Crime Unit and I are committed to investigating and arresting those who exploit our children, no matter their professions or positions,” Landry said in the press release. "Crimes against children are some of the most heinous acts imaginable, and they are even more despicable when perpetrated by people in authority who are supposed to be protecting kids."
What triggered the investigation into Hoffman was not disclosed.
The investigation was conducted in partnership with the Louisiana Bureau of Investigation, Homeland Security Investigations, the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office, the Vermilion Parish Sheriff's Office and the Kaplan Police Department.
His court date is not known at this time.
