In May of this year, the New Mexico Attorney General's office received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children concerning images found in an email account that were believed to originate from New Mexico.
An investigator with the Attorney General's office began the process by issuing a subpoena to the email provider thereby determining that the account belonged to Raymond Pacheco, 28, of Las Cruces, New Mexico.
Once the information was forwarded to the Las Cruces Police Department, they began their own investigation and on September 17th, executed a search warrant on Pacheco's residence where they recovered several cell phone and other electronic devices.
A forensics examination of the devices confirmed the existence of an email account with sexually explicit images of children as well as images that were non-sexual in nature which appeared to have been taken locally without the knowledge of those being photographed.
On Friday, September 27th, Pacheco was arrested on five charges of sexual exploitation of a minor. Four of the counts pertain to manufacturing sexually explicit material while the other charge is for possession of such material.
He was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center where he is being held without bond. He appeared before a judge on September 28th, and his next court date has not yet been disclosed.
Court documents filed reveal that the images recovered involve girls between the ages of 3 and 7 performing sexual acts on men. Additionally, none of the images found on his devices are of girls older than 12 years old.
Las Cruces police are concerned about the possibility that there could be local victims and are asking that anyone with information contact them at (575) 526-0795.
