Despite being arrested back on December 22, Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva just recently Tweeted on Tuesday concerning the arrest of 31-year-old Alejandra Moreno for the abuse of her 2-year-old daughter.
Deputies on Catalina Island found the girl "severely physically abused, including bruising around her neck indicative of rope marks, a golf-sized bruise to her left cheek, and healed burn marks on her right leg."
The deputy District Attorney has filed two counts of felony child abuse. The DA declined to add any enhancement of Great Bodily Injury to the charges.
At her arraignment on December 24, the Judge overturned the prosecutor's recommendation to set her bail at $1 in compliance with Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón’s recently implemented policy to eliminate cash bail.
Her bail was set at $50,000 and she remains in custody at the Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood, California.
The girl is now in the care of relatives according Sheriff's Department spokesman to Lt. Richard Ruiz.
Her next court date is scheduled for January 15 at 8:30 am in Long Beach Superior Court.
