Mother confesses to murdering daughter after initially claiming she was kidnapped

Catania, Italy: Martina Patti, the 24-year-old mother of 5-year-old Elena Del Pozzo initially told police that her daughter had been snatched by three armed and masked men as she left her nursery school on Monday, June 13, 2022.

Police however, found it odd that none of the surveillance cameras captured any sign of the alleged abduction.

Tuesday morning, officers arrived at Patti's residence armed with a search warrant. While her home was being searched, Patti allegedly confessed to killing her daughter and burying her in a shallow grave in a nearby field.

Patti has now been charged with aggravated murder and concealing a corpse.

According to initial reports, Elena was stabbed several times in the neck, upper back and behind the ear. Her body was found nude, inside of a trash bag.

When police asked Patti why she killed her daughter she reportedly answered, "I wasn't myself."

The investigation remains ongoing and law enforcement has not ruled out the possibility that Patti may have had an accomplice.
