Donald Joseph returned home from work just after 10 on Monday to find his 5-year-old son Devon face-down in the tub with an apparent stab wound to his neck.
Devon was unresponsive when Donald removed him from the tub.
Emergency services responded to the residence and administered CPR to the child as he was transported to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. He was pronounced dead at 11:03 pm.
In another room, 40-year-old Jennifer Joseph was found with self-inflicted lacerations to her wrist. She was transported to Penn-Presbyterian Medical Center in stable condition.
Earlier today, she was charged with murder for the death of Devon.
Police Chief Inspector Scott Small has stated to reporters at the scene that mental health issues may have been a factor.
In an exclusive interview with The Sun, Donald explained that he never had concern that his wife could harm Devon. He mentioned she was also dealing with anxiety and depression for which she had been prescribed medication.
She stopped taking the medication in September.
Donald relayed that "She basically said: 'It's good he's out of his misery now'."
