West Valley City Police were dispatched early Tuesday morning to a residence after a call was placed to emergency services stating that a neighbor had come to their door and reported that she had murdered her child.
When police pulled up to the residence, they found 29 year old Nicole Lester sitting outside the home in bloodied clothing. She was taken into custody without incident.
Police found a 6 year old boy asleep on the main floor of the home and removed him to a secure located. In the basement, they found the body of a 4 year old girl, later identified as Laney Vos. Police then exited the residence and sealed it to await a search warrant.
Lester was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on a single charge of aggravated murder and is being held without bond. Her court date is not known.
The homeowner, Lester's mother, was away at the time of the incident. She returned later in the day and took custody of the 6 year old boy.
The Laney's cause of death is still pending medical examination, but according to the local ABC affiliate, police made a note of "many sharp-edge type wounds" in their report.
