Louisville, Kentucky: 4-year-old Serenity Ann McKinney was last seen December 24, 2020 but just reported missing earlier this month after family became increasingly concerned by the passage of time.
According to WDRB, Serenity's grandparents were the ones that finally reported her missing after her mother, Catherine McKinney cut off contact between them.
At the time, Captain Blake Lisby of the Shelby County Sheriff's Office in Kentucky said, "[McKinney] has still not produced Serenity for us and has not cooperated with us up to this point in the investigation. [She's] refusing to speak with us about the whereabouts of her daughter."
Shortly thereafter, McKinney, 21, and her boyfriend, Dakota Hill, 26, were arrested and booked into the Thomas County Sheriff's Office Jail in Kansas on charges of custodial interference.
On Friday, February 18, Kentucky State Police announced the recovery of Serenity's body from a wooded area near the Jefferson County- Bullitt County line. An autopsy was scheduled for Saturday.
McKinney and Hill have been extradited to the Shelby County Detention Center in Kentucky and have now been charged with murder and abuses of a corpse.
Police have yet to release information concerning how or when Serenity died and any possible motive.
