Kansas City, Kansas: Howard Jansen III will be sentenced on March 25, 2022 for the death of his 3-year-old daughter Olivia Jensen.
On Friday, February 11, 30-year-old Jensen plead guilty to a charge of second-degree murder, three counts of aggravated child endangerment, one count of abuse of a child and one count of interference with law enforcement.
Olivia's mother and Jensen's girlfriend, Jacqulyn Kirkpatrick plead guilty to charges against her and was sentenced to 31 years in prison in November 2021. As a part of the plea deal, she would have been required to testify against Jensen had his case gone to trial.
After reporting Olivia missing on the morning of Friday, July 10, 2020, Jensen was arrested later that night after investigators found her body near a trail in the area of Interstate 635. Kirkpatrick was arrested the next morning.
An autopsy revealed that Olivia had signs of physical abuse and had died of a brain bleed.
This case has brought much attention and criticism to the manner in which the Kansas Department of Children and Families handles cases and investigations.
