West Palm Beach, Florida: On Monday, December 19, a 13-year-old girl went to St. Mary's Medical Center in West Palm Beach, Florida complaining of abdominal pain. After examination, it was discovered that she was approximately 6-weeks pregnant.
The girl was able to tell officers that 41-year-old Jean Evenel Innocent, a relative, was responsible and that he had raped her on at least four occasions going back as far as July 2020 following abdominal surgery.
She told officers of several instances over the summer of 2022 and the most recent rape, which took place in November 2022. She provided officers with a disturbing level of detail about her rapes.
Following her conversation with investigators, they arranged "a one-party consent-controlled call" between the girl and Innocent.
During that conversation Innocent initially instructed her to deny an offered pregnancy test and "began making up a story to tell about a relationship with a boy named "Semen," telling her that if she were to tell he would go to jail.
Later that day, officers spoke with Innocent directly. During that conversation, "he stated that he believes voodoo caused him to have sexual intercourse with" the girl according to the probable cause affidavit.
Innocent claimed that he could only recall two of the assaults. One was in September and the second was in November.
As a result Innocent has been charged with two counts of sexual battery with a child, one count of invest and one count of impregnation of a child. He is being held in the Palm Beach Main Detention Center without bond.
