At 8:30 am on Monday, September 16th, a call was transferred from California Highway Patrol to the San Bernardino Sheriff's. On the other end of the phone, a man simply stated that he had stabbed his daughter.
Emergency services rushed to the scene and located 71 year old Joe Edward Montes still at the house and also inside, his 49 year old daughter Darlene Montes, suffering from multiple stab wounds. She was rushed to nearby San Antonio Community Hospital but died a short time later.
Joe Montes was contacted by deputies at the home, and was taken down to the Rancho Cucamonga Police Station for an interview. Based on evidence recovered and his own statements, Montes was arrested and charged with murder.
He was booked into the Wet Valley Detention Center where he is being held without bail. He is due in court today.
At this time, no motive has been established.
A GoFundMe account has been established by the Los Angeles Mission College in Sylmar where Darlene worked as the school’s dean of academic affairs to help with final expenses.
