On January 20, 30-year-old Dmitry Ponomarenko of Odessa, Ukraine was found by police carrying the severed head of his father with the intestines of another victim wrapped around his neck.
Investigators told «Думской» (Dumskaya) that upon making contact with Ponomarenko, he told them that "he is a god who is not worshiped."
He told investigators that the murders had been committed as a part of a ritual.
While being taken away by officers, Ponomarenko was reported by USI Online to have told those gathered that he had killed because he "wanted to."
The victims have been identified as his father, 53-year-old Igor Ponomarenko and 32-year-old Aleksandr Demchenko who was also a resident at the apartment. It is unclear if Ponomarenko was residing with his father at the time of the murders or not as he is reported to be married with a 4-year-old son.
Ponomarenko made his first appearance in court on January 22 where Judge Yulia Feduleeva denied him bail and ordered him to be sent to a pre-trial detention center for two months.
If convicted, he faces a possible sentence of 15 years in prison.
