Kentucky State Police were called Monday night by a woman that told them she was following a vehicle her 15-year-old daughter was in. Earlier that same day, her daughter had been reported missing after she had climbed out of her bedroom window.
The woman advised dispatch that the vehicle had pulled into a Circle K gas station and police soon responded.
KSP arrested 40- year-old Steven Scott Hargrove of La Vergne, Tennessee and was booked into the Daviess County Detention Center. He currently stands charged with one count of promoting human trafficking of a victim under 18. He is due to appear in district court on August 28th at noon.
The Owensboro Times reports that additional charges may be added and that additional suspects may be charged as well citing an unnamed KSP official.
According to the arrest report, the girl told officers that she had been engaged in a sexual relationship with Hargrove for some time. She stated she had initially lied about her age, but after he found out that she was a minor, he continued engaging in sexual relations with her anyway.
The girl is said to have told officers that she had been "passed off" to other men in Kentucky and neighboring states for sex and that in exchange, Hargrove provided her with gifts including money, dogs and other items.
