Gresham, Oregon: Just after 2:00 am on Tuesday, January 3, 2023, officers with the Gresham Police Department arrived at the Cleveland TriMet Max platform outside of Portland and found 25-year-old Koryn Daniel Kraemer attacking an unidentified 78-year-old male.
Officers had to use force in order to successfully separate the two and took Kraemer into custody.
The man was transported to a hospital for treatment of his injuries which were said to have included a severed ear and injuries to his skin in the area of his ear and face which revealed his skull. The man was placed under sedation and said to be in stable condition.
Following Kraemer's arrest, he spoke with Gresham Police and officers with the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office.
Kraemer is reported to have thanked the officers saying that they had saved his life by separating him from "the robot." Kraemer allegedly told the investigators that he knew the man was a robot "based on how the victim smelled" according to the probable cause affidavit.
During his initial appearance in court the following day, Kraemer entered an initial plea of not guilty to a charge of second-degree assault.
During that hearing, the district attorney's office revealed that Kraemer had admitted to investigators that he had consumed alcohol, cannabis and fentanyl pills before the attack.
KGW spoke with a man that had been renting a room to Kraemer until November when he had been asked to leave.
The unidentified homeowner described Kraemer as pleasant and sweet when not under the influence of substances, but then allegedly said that something had changed recently. It was at that time that the homeowner kicked Kraemer out.
