A friend sent me a message yesterday about some supposed bills going before the NY State Assembly. I’m not typically a skeptic when it comes to the never-ending flux of fascism flooding our nation, but this one was so extreme, I messaged right back and said, “This one has GOT to be fear porn!” Much to my chagrin, she pinged right back with the text of the full bill as posted to the nysenate.gov website. Another friend later corroborated the bill’s validity by sending me a screen shot of several bills going up for vote in the State of New York (see below).

The open-ended ambiguity leaves room for MUCH interpretation and tons of unbridled power on behalf of state political officials. Here are a couple of terrifying snippets from this Declaration of Total Dependance.
A SUSPECTED CASE OR SUSPECTED CARRIER WHO IS DETAINED PURSUANT TO SUBDIVISION TWO OF THIS SECTION SHALL NOT CONTINUE TO BE DETAINED AFTER THE DEPARTMENT DETERMINES, WITH THE EXERCISE OF DUE DILIGENCE, THAT SUCH PERSON IS NOT INFECTED WITH OR HAS NOT BEEN EXPOSED TO SUCH A DISEASE, OR IF INFECTED WITH OR EXPOSED TO SUCH A DISEASE, NO LONGER IS OR WILL BECOME CONTAGIOUS.
The bill also uses strange language such as, “a person named, or group.” In other words, there may be cases where instead of one individual, a large group of people will all be detained at once, together. “Cattle cars? Herr Bueller? Herr Bueller? Anyone?”
