Florida woman charged with child abuse over alleged exorcism
Seminole, Florida: According to WFLA, 33-year-old Hope Alexandra Sullivan was arrested after a roommate returned to find her conducting an exorcism on a child.
The arrest warrant seen by the station stated that the roommate had returned home on Friday, October 21, to discover the child vomiting and Sullivan's sister on the phone praying, encouraging her to vomit more.
The woman told law enforcement that she initially left the scene.
When she returned approximately 20 minutes later, she stated that the child had a "makeshift 'noose' around her neck with [a] robe tie."
After some time the child removed the noose from her neck.
In speaking with law enforcement, the child is reported to have told them that the woman on the phone was speaking in another language in order to "get the 'suicidal demon' out of her" after Sullivan had told her that there was a demon in her.
Sullivan was booked into the Pinellas County Jail on a single count of child abuse. On Sunday, October 23, she bonded out of custody.
A public defender has been appointed, but her next court date is not known.
