According to a Facebook post by the Lee County Sheriff's Office, they received notification of a possible child abuse situation on Monday, January 13th and so, in partnership with Lee County Depart of Human Resources conducted a welfare check at the Smith Station residence.
During the check, investigators with the Sheriff's office noticed two wooden cages with hasps and locks present. Further investigation revealed that children had been locked inside "on multiple occasions."
Four children, ages 3, 4, 10, and 11 were present at the residence during the welfare check. They were removed and placed into the custody of DHR. An additional child, an 8 month old, was discovered to reside at the residence as well, but was not present at the time. That child as well, has been placed into the custody of DHR.
On Wednesday Lee County Sheriffs obtained arrest warrants for the three adults that called the residence home, identified by AL.com as the mother and grandparents of the children.
30 year old Kylla Michelle Mann of Smith Station was arrested and charged with 2 counts of Aggravated Child abuse of a child less than 6 years of age and 2 counts of Reckless Endangerment. She is being held on a $122,000 bond.
66 year old Pamela Deloris Bond from Smith Station was arrested and charged with 2 counts of Aggravated Child Abuse of child less than 6 years of age, 2 counts of Reckless Endangerment and one count of Tampering with Physical Evidence. She is being held on a$123,000 bond.
69 year old James H. Bond of Smith Station was arrested and charged with 2 counts of Aggravated Child abuse of a child less than 6 years of age and 2 counts of Reckless Endangerment. He is being held on a $122,000 bond.
