Thursday, September 26th, the Pascua Yaqui Police Department responded to a residence situated on the Pascua Yaqui Reservation at the southwest end of Tucson, Arizona.
When they arrived on scene, Pablo Martinez and Romelia Martinez were both standing outside and the front door of their residence was locked.
When the officers asked what had happened, Romelia allegedly pointed to Pablo and said, “He can tell you.”
Pablo is said to have explained to the officers that they would not understand as they were neither in the right mindset nor of the right beliefs. Eventually though, he is said to have turned to them, placed his hands in the air and said, "I did it."
Romelia then unlocked the door and allowed the officers inside where they found Pablo's six year old son lying nude in bed, not breathing. The child is reported to have had burns over 15 per cent of his body including his forearms, head, and elbows. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.
According to court documents, Pablo said that he noticed a demon in his son earlier in the week and allegedly told investigators that his son had been acting demonic. Pablo is said to have further explained that while he was bathing his son, he saw something evil within his son and knew that he had to get it out.
Pablo allegedly admitted to holding his son under the faucet for five to ten minutes and stated that the hot water began casting the demon out of his son.
Pablo appeared in court for the first time on Friday the 27th and is being held by the U.S. Marshall's Service.
