Oakmont, Pennsylvania: On Thursday, May 11, 2023, 32-year-old Jose Eduardo Salazar-Ortiz was found guilty for his role in the June 9, 2020 death of his 3-year-old daughter, Bella Seachrist.
Judge Bruce R. Beemer convicted Salazar-Ortiz of third-degree murder, aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of children and conspiracy. He is scheduled to be sentenced on August 8, 2023.
Also facing charges related to Bella's death are her 30-year-old step-mother, Laura Michelle Ramirez and Ramirez's 23-year-old sister, Alexis Melissa Herrera. Their cases have not yet made it to trial.
Ramirez has been charged with aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of children, unlawful restraint, criminal homicide, conspiracy and involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child. Jury selection for her case is scheduled to begin on the morning of June 22, 2023.
Herrera has been charged with aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of children, unlawful restraint of a minor, and criminal homicide. Herrera is scheduled to be back in court on May 31, 2023 for a motions hearing.
