In the early morning hours of October 5th, Dominic Brown, in his second year of internship at a private boarding school where he taught history and coached water polo, is accused of inappropriately touching two students while they slept.
The students reported the events to the school's Department of Public Safety and Security which then reported the incident to the police for investigation.
"I commend the students for speaking up — and encourage anyone who may have additional information about this incident to share it with us," the Head Master of the school, Stephen Murray said in a statement.
"We informed law enforcement and they are investigating. The students have been offered counseling and support from faculty and others. The teacher has been banned from campus and terminated. This incident is deeply troubling and violates the foundation of trust that our community holds between adults and the students in our care," the statement continued.
Murray also noted that nothing in Brown's background check or references could have led the school to believe that he was capable of acting in such a manner.
According to the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office, Brown has been charged with two counts each of aggravated criminal sexual contact and endangering the welfare of a child.
The investigation is ongoing and anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact the Prosecutor's Detective Alicia Bergondo at 609-989-6568.
