It started as a missing child case on February 19, 2021 at approximately 1:00 pm.
By that evening, after locating the body of 2-year-old Athian Rivera in an apartment complex dumpster near his home, investigators felt that they had their suspect in custody and filed a probable cause affidavit with the Laramie County District Attorney's office recommending additional charges of aggravated child abuse and murder.
The autopsy results were returned as "inconclusive" though, Cheyenne police spokeswoman Alexandra Farkas said yesterday.
"We've just continued working with the district attorney and that's pretty much where we're at right now," she told the Billings Gazette. "We're still not able to identify any other subjects but that affidavit was turned over so now it's kind of a waiting game."
The suspect in question is 27-year-old Wyatt Dean Lamb. He was arrested at the residence Athian went missing from on "an unrelated felony warrant for failure to appear and misdemeanor warrant for parole violation."
He is also the boyfriend of Athian's mother, and that failure to appear seems to relate to a charge from February 2020 related to felony strangulation of a household member, misdemeanor property destruction, and interfering with a peace officer.
At this time, Lamb remains in the custody of the Laramie County Sheriff's Office, and investigators are still looking into the death of Athian.
