Lawrenceville, Georgia: Officers were called to a residence at about 8:00 am Sunday morning for a report of an injured child.
At the home, officers located a 4-year-old boy that had been stabbed in the stomach. He was transported to the hospital where his condition was listed as stable. According to WXIA the police indicated that the injury is not believed to the life threatening and he is expected to make a full recovery.
The child's mother is believed to have been asleep in the home when the stabbing happened. Another family member in the home placed the call to 911.
The boy's uncle, 19-year-old Anatolii Balesta was still at the residence and was taken into custody without incident.
Balesta was charged with aggravated assault, first degree cruelty to children and possession of a knife in the commission of a felony.
At this time, investigators stated that they believe drugs were a factor in the stabbing, but stated that the matter was still under investigation.
