Sacramento, California: Back on Sunday, February 13, emergency responders were called to an apartment building in the early morning hours on a "medical call" for an unresponsive 4-year-old.
The child, later identified as Kierra Wesley, was rushed to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Thursday, February 24, the woman that had been caring for Kierra since October 2021 was arrested and charged with one count of murder and one count of assault resulting in death of a child under the age of 8.
28-year-old La Kreesha Frederick is being in held in the Sacramento County Main Jail in lieu of $1 million bail and is scheduled to make her first appearance in court today.
Kierra's mother, Sierra Quarles spoke with KCRA.
She told them that Frederick was the mother of Kierra's half-brother. While Sierra had custody of Kierra, she had evidently made arrangements for her daughter to stay with Frederick.
"We agreed that Kierra should stay with La Kreesha because she had a stable house and everything, while I got into the housing program," Sierra said.
The official cause of death has not yet been released as the investigation by the Sacramento County Coroner's Office remains ongoing.
