Talladega County District Attorney Steven Giddens announced yesterday that 16 year old Landon Durham of Munford, Alabama has been charged with capitol murder for the stabbing death of his mother and 13 year old brothers.
Durham has been charged as an adult since he is at least 16 and it is a capitol offense. As with the case in Utah, Durham is not eligible for the death penalty because of his age. He faces a possible sentence of life either with, or without the possibility of parole which will be determined by the judge.
According to Giddens, investigators believe that Durham fatally stabbed his mother, 36 year old Holli Christina Durham and his 13 year old twin brothers, Branson and Baron Durham some time on Tuesday morning.
Durham then left the home to attend school.
It wasn't until Tuesday night that Talladega County Sheriff's Officers responded to a call and found the deceased. During the course of their investigation they determined that the eldest son was not accounted for and identified him as a person of interest.
He was found the following morning at about 7:40 am by Cherokee County Sheriff’s Officers and taken into custody without incident.
Durham's preliminary hearing is scheduled for Friday.
