The Lauderdale County Sheriff's Office began investigating a 7th grade math teacher at Brooks High School in Killen, Alabama in January of this year, but soon had to turn the investigation over to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency's State Bureau of Investigation after learning that the student in their investigation was related to a member of the Sheriff's Department.
That same month, the teacher, 27-year-old Ashton Alana McCluskey was placed on administrative leave.
As a result of the investigation conducted by the SBI, a grand jury handed down an indictment containing two charges against McCluskey for a school employee having sexual contact with a student under the age of 17. The charges are felonies.
If she is convicted on both charges, she faces between 2 and 20 years in prison and the possible permanent suspension of her teaching license.
On Wednesday, February 24, McCluskey turned herself in at the Lauderdale County Jail. She was released later in the day on a $50,000 bond.
It was not disclosed if the student was in her class.
Her next court date could not be determined at this time.
