Quitman, Georgia: On Monday, April 12, a five-year veteran of the Brooks County Sheriff's Office and pastor at Redeemed in Christ Church was indicted and subsequently arrested on charges of rape, incest and child molestation.
44-year-old Will Cope was booked into the Brooks County Jail but has since been released on bond.
He has resigned from his position with the Brooks County Sheriff's Office as well, where he had worked in narcotics, general investigations, and as an administrator at the jail according to the Valdosta Daily Times.
WALB reached out to the Redeemed in Christ Church for comment, but the person that answered the phone advised that they had been told by an attorney not to speak with media and declined to comment. The church's Facebook page has since been deactivated.
The investigation began on May 29, 2020 when the Quitman Police Department requested that the Georgia Bureau of Investigation look into reports of sexual abuse allegedly committed by Cope.
The investigation remains active and ongoing and no statement has been made at this time as to the nature of the allegations against Cope.
