San Antonio, Texas: This last weekend, Lina Sardhar Khil should have been celebrating her fourth birthday with her family. Instead, family and friends gathered to celebrate her and pray for her safe return.
Lina Khil has been missing since December 20, 2021.
She was playing on a playground at the apartment complex where she lived with her parents between 4 and 5 pm when her mother stepped away for a brief period of time.
According to reports, Lina was not left alone, but was in the company of other adults and children that were playing.
When her mother returned though, Lina was gone.
Within days, the FBI had joined the investigation. At the beginning of January, a FBI dive team was called out to search along a creek approximately two miles from where Lina was last seen.
At the time, Police Chief William McManus addressed speculation saying, "I wish I could be more uplifting. I know this looks like we're really onto something. But all we're doing here is following up."
"We don't want to leave anything to chance," he said.
In mid-January, the Amber alert for Lina was suspended, but the investigation continued despite no updates in the case.
In hopes of getting new leads, the Islamic Center of San Antonio has announced that they were able to increase the reward that they are offering to $200,000. This is in addition to the $50,000 reward being offered by Crime Stoppers.
Anyone with information on Lina's whereabouts is asked to contact the San Antonio Police Department's Missing Persons Unit at (210) 207-7660 or if wishing to remain anonymous, Crime Stoppers at (210) 244-7867.
